3. License Plates/The Shining

The best way to sneak in a cheeky reference to some sort of number or address is to do it via a license plate, as demonstrated so well in the Toy Story films. The most common reference in most Pixar movies is A113, a reference to the class room at CalArts where many of the animators learnt their trade. This is the number plate of Andy€™s Mom€™s car throughout all three movies. In Toy Story 3 it is frame also read€™s €˜tiger€™s pride€™ a reference to Lee Unkrich€™s home town. Another license plate reference is RM237, which is the license plate on one of the garbage trucks in Toy Story 3. This is a reference to Room 237 from the Shining, Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich€™s favourite movie. Turns out that isn€™t the only nod to Stanley Kubrick€™s classic take on Stephen King€™s novel in Toy Story 3 either; the user name for the Dinosaur Toy on the chat room is Velocistar237, another clear reference to the iconic room 237. The carpet in Sid€™s (Toy Story 1) also bears a very clear resemblance to the one made famous by The Shining.
