Marvel Studios

When Disney and Marvel Studios announced that they had brokered a deal to "borrow" Spider-Man's movie rights from Sony to bring him into the MCU, every Spidey fan in the world suddenly got very excited indeed. This was pretty swiftly on the rear wheels of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was a mess and confirmed that Sony's own attempt to reboot the character hadn't worked, so there was a pretty good foundation to work from.

After all, it's always better to be rebooting something that has failed, rather than trying to outdo greatness.

Even is The Amazing Spider-Man 2 HAD been great, the MCU's Spider-Man would have given it a good run for its money. After the Webslinger's scene-stealing debut in Captain America: Civil War, Homecoming doubled down on everything that had been so good about Tom Holland's debut.

Taking a lead from John Hughes classics (and Harry Potter to a certain extent), we got to see a real high-school Peter Parker and the true cost of being a superhero at that age. There was no agenda to race him out of school as there had been previously and seeing a green superhero with such misplaced bravado was refreshing as well as slotting in perfectly with the MCU's broader ideas about accountability.
