5 Kaiju We DEFINITELY Won't See In Godzilla's Monsterverse
5. Precursor Kaiju
The Precursor Kaiju are the main antagonist of the Pacific Rim franchise. These behemoths are the instruments of a race of inter-dimensional aliens dubbed the Precursors in their effort to wipe out the human race and terraform the planet.
Although not a creation of Toho, logistically speaking a Pacific Rim-Monsterverse crossover would be entirely possible. Pacific Rim is owned by Legendary Pictures, the American production company partnering with Toho to bring us this new iteration of Godzilla.
It may be possible, but don't expect to see these creatures share the big screen with Godzilla, Kong or any other titans. The main issue with a crossover here would be the conflicting tone of both franchises. The Monsterverse attempts to stick as close to reality as possible, not a small feat given the material, while Pacific Rim has fully embraced its' anime influences.
The underperformance of 2018's Pacific Rim: Uprising surely didn't help any crossover aspirations either. The Sequel saw an international gross of $291 million, far less than the $411 its' predecessor managed to rake in.
Short of Legendary seeing a crossover with as a way to revitalize the Pacific Rim franchise, don't hold you breath on seeing the Precursor Kaiju share the big screen with the King of the Monsters.
