5 Newly Acquired Properties That Are A Pefect Fit For Disney (And 5 That Are Not)
10. Perfect: The Sound Of Music
Disney has taken to remaking some of the classic films at their disposal. In recent years, we have seen new iterations of Cinderella and Mary Poppins. We have also been given live-action adaptations of The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast and Christopher Robin, with Aladdin and The Lion King coming this year.
Looking at the current list of current Disney remakes, music has been a point of emphasis. With this in mind, The Sound of Music seems like an ideal fit for Walt Disney Studios. Debuting on Broadway in 1959 and receiving a theatrical release in 1965 , The Sound of Music is one of the most culturally significant musicals of all-time. The movie was a massive hit at the box office, with one of the highest adjusted box-offices of all time.
There are certainly people who have not seen The Sound of Music, everyone is familiar with at least some of the music from the film. Songs such as "So Long, Farewell", "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and "Do-Re-Mi" have been performed and referenced in pop culture for generations.
The acquisition is still in its infancy, so there is no word on the what and when films will be adapted or remade. Of all of Disney's recent purchases, The Sound of Music is among the most due.
