5 Things We Learned From Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck

3. Kurt Was Obsessed With How He Was Perceived

Kurt was a sensitive man, who hated being humiliated. As Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic explains during an on-screen interview, €œif he ever thought he was being humiliated, then you€™d see the rage come out€. As a result, Kurt was very careful about how he and his music was portrayed by others. The first review Nirvana ever got, for their Love Buzz/Big Cheese single, was extremely negative, describing the band as €œlike Lynyrd Skynyrd without the flare€, which Kurt apparently took to heart. This obsession with how he was perceived portrays Kurt as vulnerable and suggests he was merely seeking acceptance through his music.
