5. It’s Too Easy To Forget He’s A Genius
This man has 7 PhDs and yet our introduction to him in Endgame is him dabbing at kids spewing catchphrases at a smartphone.
Of course, five years have passed in a terrible situation and Banner has changed as a person, but while the other Avengers have used their sorrow in the five years and channelled it into helping people, Bruce reappears in a café eating pancakes and just… tells the other Avengers that he spent the time researching how to merge with the Hulk and became a celebrity.
When you think about his character in earlier installations, Bruce would be the last person you think of potentially using his time to garner star power. Just because a character change can be justified through time passing, it doesn’t make it a good change.
Steve tells Scott they need a “really big brain” after Tony refuses them, but then Tony discovers time travel properly and all of Bruce’s work is now an obsolete failure, his only contributions being humorous quips that a baby Scott Lang will eventually grow, having to be yelled at by Steve to return the correct aged Scott to them.
Turns out they didn't need his "really big brain" after all. They just needed him to mess up a bit for comedy before Tony saved the day.
