Status: Confirmed Due: March 2nd 2017 Key Players: Hugh Jackman reprises his role for (allegedly) the last time, while Sir Patrick Stewart is said to have a significant part. James Mangold returns to the directing chair, which is good news after The Wolverine. Whats It About: Rather wonderfully, Jackman has hinted that the film will be based on Old Man Logan, the fan favourite comic book arc. A close adaptation would be impossible, given that Marvel own the rights to pretty much all of the supporting characters in the story. But it could still work: Mangold could simply use the idea of having a retired Wolverine dragged back into active duty in a Dystopian future ravaged by the rise of supervillains. The presence of Charles Xavier could also tantalisingly suggest that the comics tragic tale of Wolverines accidental slaughter of his fellow X-Men under Mysterios control could play some part too. Why We Should Care: Because Jackman can basically do no wrong as Wolverine, and the idea of a tragic Dystopian future with the character ruined by guilt and unwillingly dragged out of retirement suggests a wonderful Last Gunfighter sort of feel. Hes always had something of Roosyer Cogburn about him, and that would be the perfect end to his arc, before someone younger (and probably inferior) is inevitably cast to replace Jackman.
