The creation of Ultron came about due to the work of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, with Stark dreaming of a world without the need for superheroes, and robots who can do the job for them. Although there's some rapid-fire explanation of the programme during the film, a deleted scene gives a little bit more about what exactly it was supposed to do. It shows Stark and Banner science bro-ing out, talking about what Ultron is doing and what went wrong. Banner is surprised at the AI's ability to continue learning and advancing, to which Stark responds that it was supposed to "learn slang, not go insane." There's a glimpse of their differing views, as Banner says that: "You're assuming it did." Stark then jokes about his friend's anger issues, and finally Banner states that Ultron was supposed to solve the world, with the implication being that's exactly what he is doing, just not in the manner they intended. It's not the most crucial scene, but does expand further on Ultron's creation and motives, and more of the Science Bros. is always welcome.
