6 Huge Star Wars Movie Rumours You Need To Know

6. Aaron Sorkin Could Be Writing Rogue Squadron

This one is as much a fan theory as it is a rumour, sure, but since the whole point of this article is to speculate about future Star Wars movies, it's worth bringing up.

During Disney's investor conference in December 2020, the company announced that Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins will be helming Rogue Squadron, the next theatrical Star Wars movie that currently has a Christmas 2023 release date.

One key detail that was missing from this announcement is the identity of the film's screenwriter, which is odd, considering that Jenkins recently told Collider that she (along with her mystery co-writer) has been working on the story "for a while".

So, naturally, we have to ask the question: who is writing Rogue Squadron? And why hasn't a name been officially announced yet? Well, one name that's recently been floated around - a name that does seem to fit into this particular puzzle - is The Social Network and A Few Good Men scribe Aaron Sorkin.

For starters, Sorkin and Jenkins recently conducted a one-on-one interview over on Variety's YouTube channel, in which they mention that they both want to work with each other. Prepare for a massive stretch, but could this be a sly hint that they're currently collaborating on Rogue Squadron?

In addition, Jenkins also told Collider that she wants the film's writer to have "his own proper announcement". This comment tells us that the writer is a man - obviously - but it also seems to imply that it's a huge name, one that would warrant its own individual announcement, and one that's going to get everyone excited.

And it doesn't get more exciting than an Oscar-winning talent like Sorkin.

Now, would he even be interested in writing for Star Wars, considering that he normally only works on lower-budgeted dramatic fare? Maybe not. But then again, this guy did do some uncredited script work on Michael Bay's The Rock back in the late '90s, so he's not totally averse to dabbling in blockbuster territory.
