In the movie business, spending money to make money is never smart. You need only look at the likes of Green Lantern, John Carter, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for proof of that, but could Batman v Superman be heading the same way as those big budget flops? According to one report, the budget has bloated to a mind-blowing $400+ million, an amount that's just $100 million shy of Justice League 1 and 2 combined. Warner Bros. are seemingly so concerned about how expensive this movie is, they've made a point of limiting the budget on those superhero ensembles to a maximum of $500 million simply to keep costs in control. The really worrying thing here is the fact that that $400 million more than likely doesn't include marketing costs, and while Batman v Superman toys will no doubt fly off shelves, that may not be enough in the end. One number which is constantly being thrown around is $1 billion. That's what Batman v Superman needs to be considered a success, and while you might think that a movie pitting two iconic heroes against each other is a guaranteed hit, who would have ever guessed that the likes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and X-Men: Days of Future Past would so easily outgross a release like Man of Steel?
