Daniel Craig has become known for being something of a miserable bastard, but his comments last year about wanting to slash his wrists rather than play Bond again made him less endearing to fans of this franchise than ever before. His by the numbers performance made it pretty clear that he's only sticking around for the money at this point, and while MGM will likely offer him a massive amount to return, that would be a mistake. For starters, Spectre felt like the natural end to his Bond's story. To bring him out of retirement feels predictable and inevitable, but at least with a new Bond, it would be like the old days when a new actor took over and we got a fresh start. This 007's story started off strong, faltered, became great again, and then ended on a sour note, and we simply don't need that to continue; give Craig his wish and let him move on from the role! The biggest problem of course is the fact that he's still contracted to return, but it doesn't sound as if it's one of those deals where the studio can basically force him to slip back into a tuxedo. Another issue with Craig's Bond at this stage is that he's getting too old. At 47, he'll be near or past 50 by the time the next move is released, and it's getting to the point where seeing him seducing a beautiful young woman will just look creepy.
