7 Great Harry Potter Plot Twists That Don’t Get Enough Credit

7. The Triwizard Cup Is A Portkey – The Goblet Of Fire

This plot twist is often overlooked because of the events that immediately follow it. And this is perfectly understandable, given the importance of Cedric’s death and the return of the Dark Lord.

Yet what’s clever about this particular plot twist is how well it links to the start of The Goblet of Fire. In order to get to and from the Quidditch World Cup, Harry, Hermione, and the Weasleys use a portkey in the shape of an old boot.

The introduction of this travelling method appears to be nothing more than an interesting bit of world-building, but in reality, it was establishing something that would be vital later on.

As such, when Harry and Cedric grab the Triwizard Cup, viewers and readers know what’s happening even if they weren’t able to anticipate the twist itself. It’s a clever link to the beginning of the story, and one that isn’t given enough credit.
