The Movies... Harry Potter 1-8 (2001-2011) Is Hermione Granger irritating? Let me put it this way: if she wasn't played by Emma Watson, and better resembled the buck-toothed, scruffy-looking nerd child as written in J.K. Rowling's novels, I don't think this character would come across as anything but irritating. And yet it all comes down to the fact that Hermione is played by the beautiful Emma Watson, who manages to make nerdiness sort of acceptable, in the sense that we all want to be her "study buddy" - and hold the studying! Am I right fellas? Is this creepy yet? Anyway, she's Harry Potter's know-it-all best pal and witch extraordinare, a character who spends most of the movies telling people why they're wrong and not as good at magic. And Yet... This girl does everything. Like, everything. Despite her position as a "supporting character," Hermione is the one who comes up with all the great plans, does all the research, gets everybody out of trouble at every turn, and - even though she loves behaving - is still willing to make sacrifices to save her friends when they mess up. Compared to Harry, she's a genuine wonder. Think about pretty much any scenario in the Harry Potter movies, and you'll realise that it's Hermione who is doing all the work. And she doesn't even seem to mind. The girl figures out most of the puzzles way before any of the other characters (Harry is pretty dumb, though, to be fair), knows all the right spells to save her best buds over and over again, and even has the spare time to take extra lessons in the past and form organizations like Dumbledore's Army. That's right: her idea. Harry seems to waste his privileged opportunities over and over again, and what does he get? A zillion books named after him, and the highest-grossing movie franchise of all time. Hermione is the real hero, though, despite the fact that she'd probably annoy the heck out of you on a daily basis. You know, 'cause she won't let you kiss her.
