6. George Lucas Wasn't Complete Overlord Of The Star Wars Prequels
Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have always had a close relationship. Part of the new wave of directors changing cinema in the mid seventies, together they refined the blockbuster with Indiana Jones after creating it separately a few years before. Since then, theres been Star Wars action figures in E.T. and E.T. as part of the senate in The Phantom Menace. Rumour has it they even had a bet on whose 1977 summer movie would do worse, Close Encounters or Star Wars. Another rumour that persists is that Spielberg was Lucas first choice to direct Return Of The Jedi (all the better to control production with my dear) and of course he was a firm favourite to take the role that eventually went to J.J. Abrams. But what isn't well known is that he has actually already directed some of one. Everyone knows about Lucas' dominance of the prequel's productions, with all the crew sitting in awe of him, but on Revenge Of The Sith he got old buddy Steven down to help with the pre-vis of the epic final fight on Mustafar. While its not a major role, it certainly was enough for Spielberg to earn an Assistant Director title,. as well as showing that Lucas at least listened to one person.
