7 Reasons The Guardians Of The Galaxy Shouldn't Be In Avengers: Infinity War

2. They Could Compromise The Tone Of The Movie

If the events of Captain America: Civil War are any indication, Marvel's Earth-based heroes are heading in a much darker direction than their cosmic-counterparts. Civil War was very much a grim political thriller with flashes of levity; friendships were shattered, people were murdered, heroes fell from grace. It wasn't exactly smiles all around.

And this is a problem if the Avengers and the Guardians are to collide; the tones won't match up. Guardians Of The Galaxy was ever-so slightly layered with that 80's Flash Gordon cheese, and if you take a step back... it's a ridiculous concept. A CGI talking tree and a CGI talking raccoon sounds crazy on paper, but it worked - but it only worked for that movie.

The idea of Nick Fury talking to Groot or Black Panther talking to Rocket just seems outright ludicrous, especially in Avengers: Infinity War. It's shaping up to be the darkest MCU movie yet - the Avengers are shattered, Thanos is on the way and since actors' contracts are up, we can expect a death or two. The outlook is bleak; there's nothing for Rocket to joke about, and there's nothing for Star-Lord to shuffle at. The tone of the Guardians franchise does not belong on this battlefield.

Infinity War will be hard to take seriously if Captain America is forced to share a screen with a bantering raccoon, and with death literally looming, this is one movie wherein tone cannot be compromised. There's no way Star-Lord can dance his way out of this one!
