Jason and the Argonauts (1963) - Don ChaffeyThe legendary Greek hero leads a team of intrepid adventurers in a perilous quest for the legendary Golden Fleece There is a couple of movies on this list I would describe as being "guilty pleasure" movies, in that I can watch them again and again and have so much fun with them even if they aren't technically a great movie. Jason and the Argonauts was The Lord of the Rings of it's time, a big scale fantasy epic where creatures and monsters were brought to life by the legendary Ray Harryhausen and his stop motion animation. Those evil skeleton warrirors at the end of the movie are amazing and still really hold up today. There is something about the way they move, it use to frighten the hell out of me. There is one moment where a Skeleton stabs a guy through the chest and it still kinda creeps me out. Bernard Hermann's score adds as much to the film as Howard Shore's does to Lord of the Rings and although the movie doesn't have the greatest acting around, it doesn't get in the way to much of what is a fun plot taken from the well known Greek legend of the Golden Fleece. Although the movie was directed by Don Chaffey, it's very much a Ray Harryhausen movie. Every scene uses one of his creations and it's the only thing you remember the movie for, not just the Skeleon warriors but the Bronze giant Talos and Hydra. This was Harryhausen's favourite movie he worked on... and it's my favourite of his work too.
