Now I've been vocal about my secret love for Speed Racer before. It's fluffy, colorful, and all-together exuberant; but it has no charm, no flavor, and is consistently mediocre in the "everything" department (acting, action, script). The trailer for the movie, however, does not have those vices. Tense and taught, this is a trailer gunning for an Academy Award. Visual bravado with cool, collected dialogue, the Speed Racer trailer was obviously edited by someone who never saw the picture in its completion, because the tone completely escapes that of the original anime and makes the movie look...well...fantastically exciting. Few, if any, shots of the younger brother and the chimp, and very minimal Trixie make for this trailer to be the seriously fun movie of the summer. Even though I still thought it was.
