8 Casting Decisions That Could Ruin 2016's Biggest Movies

7. Nicolas Cage - Snowden

Just when you thought Nicolas Cage had been relegated to a life of schlocky B-movies, the man is back in the saddle, apparently, set to star alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Oliver Stone's upcoming Edward Snowden biopic. Whilst it's nice to see that Nicolas Cage is still capable of landing a role in a major blockbuster, there's no use pretending that his being in this movie will be anything other than totally distracting. With an assured cast made up of Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo and Tom Wilkinson, Nicolas Cage is going to stick out like a sore thumb (playing a "former US Intelligence official," no less). Because here's an actor who has gone so far past the point of parody that it's near-on impossible to take him seriously in absolutely anything. If Cage popping up halfway through the film to deliver some scenery-chewing of the distracting kind doesn't take you out of the movie, nothing will. You've been warned.
