News hit last week that veteran filmmaker Ivan Reitman is stepping down as director of Ghostbusters 3 following the loss of Harold Ramis. Sony are still going ahead with the movie with Reitman as a producer and are hoping to shoot early 2015 in New York. Is that a good or a bad thing? With two of the key creators of the first two films gone, does that mean that the product we'll eventually be faced with will actually resemble a Ghostbusters movie at all? That said, it has to be asked: How crucial is the original director to making a 'true' Ghostbusters movie in the first place? Yes, Ivan Reitman helped create a comedy classic in the first film, but he was also responsible for the much less well-received Ghostbusters II and hasn't really had a properly successful film since the '90s, his last two features as director being No Strings Attached and My Super Ex-Girlfriend, both comedies that didn't exactly light the world on fire. Maybe it's for the best. And hey, having the same director/writer team (Dan Aykroyd & Harold Ramis) work on both movies didn't help Ghostbusters II, so the inclusion of a fresh pair of hands on the project will at least offer a different take - although we don't yet know who's take that will be just yet. The following is a list of eight potential directors who we think could do wonderful things if given the keys to the series. Please Note: Since this article was written news has spread that 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller might be close to winning the gig of directing Ghostbusters 3. But it's not yet official so we can still hope the following names are still in contention.
