The Expanded Universe was the name given to the tons of Star Wars books, comics, and games etc that carried on the story of the galaxy far, far away long after the films had ended. But after Disney's acquisition of the franchise, all of this was rendered non-canon (dubbed Legends) so that they could establish a new continuity. So, sadly, all the decades of stories that we knew and loved were no more. However, if the recent rumours are true, then Grand Admiral Thrawn, the blue skinned, red eyed member of the Chiss species who originally ruled the Galaxy after the death of Emperor Palpatine, will be showing up in the canon Star Wars: Rebels Season 3 as a high ranking imperial villain. While if he does indeed appear he'll likely be younger and won't have absolute control of the Empire like he did in the EU, instead being a subordinate of Palpatine, fans will still be thrilled to see the return of the classic character. That's not all though. In addition to Thrawn, certain other elements of the EU, such as the way that Palpatine was given a baby from the Nightsister Talzin who would grow up to become Darth Maul, have also found their way transferred into the canon continuity. They may be selective, but Disney clearly isn't above embracing that rich EU they originally dismissed. Here are the eight things they should canonise next...
