The "Sad" Ending... Wes Craven's classic '80s slasher movie is renowed for its terrifying ending, in which everybody but Freddy Krueger comes out smiling. The ending plays a little game with viewers, who are led to believe that the sum of the movie has consisted entirely of a dream sequence. Oh, movie. But when our heroine Nancy wakes up and gets into a car with all her friends, it suddenly takes control of itself, driving forwards in a sinister fashion, and Marge is pulled into the house by Freddy's gloved hand. Terrifying, don't you think? The Abandoned "Happy" Ending... The abandoned "happy" ending was abandoned for good reason: it sucked. Having gone through everything that she did in the movie, Nancy wakes up to find that it really was a dream. Like, everything we witnessed was just a teenage nightmare. She gets into the car with her friends, who are also alive and fine and everything, and they all drive off to school together. Roll credits. I mean, c'mon... we all know that "it was just a dream" is the worst choice of ending of them all, don't we? I was sure that Wes Craven would have known that, at least. Apparently not. At least this was thrown out, anyway.
