7. Jurassic World Will Raise The Bar For The Franchise

No, my concern isn't with Bryce Dallas Howard. I'm talking about the repeated claims that the story is the best since the first movie. Both the first Jurassic Park movie and the novel on which it was based remain excellent. Michael Crichton's literary sequel, The Lost World, also had an incredible underlying theme about the possible roles behavior plays in extinction, taking the premise of Jurassic Park to places that the movie sequels have as yet failed to even try to achieve. Although the film version of The Lost World and even the typically-maligned Jurassic Park III have their moments and are populated with wonderful actors, there has been absolutely no indication that the filmmakers behind the movies have attempted to up the innovation behind the first movie, much less continue it. To make matters even more flabbergasting, as we continue to plod along into the future, the possibilities are ever-increasing. There are so many stories that could be told about dinosaurs, zoos, genetics, and humans, with plenty of room to include all the awe, mayhem, and one-liners we love along the way. It's basically like shooting fish in a barrel for a screenwriter, or at least like standing in the toy aisle at Target with no money. But we're probably only going to get the spectacle, the same thing but different. At the very least, filmmakers, please don't call the marine reptiles dinosaurs. Pretty please.
