8 Horror Movie Sequels Everyone Thought Would Suck But Didn't

3. Final Destination 5 (2011)

The Final Destination franchise, based around Death hunting people down after cheating it due to a character foreseeing the future, was an intriguing concept that opened a lot of creative avenues to go down.

However, the series had just dropped a failed reboot with a lame 3D gimmick that added nothing new to a franchise that seemingly peaked after the first installment.

It still made a tidy profit, however, so the 5th film was put into production with all expectations thoroughly in the toilet as most viewers saw it as simply a big-budgeted snuff film.

This 4th sequel proved all the doubters wrong by not only having one of the most thrilling premonition scenes in the franchise but injecting some fantastic twists into the formula to shake things up.

The death scenes are a ballet of multiple things that could go wrong, and the joy is trying to work out which of the ten things that could cause death the movie is hinting at is what will lead to the victim's demise.

The finding of Death's new rule that if you kill someone you steal the remaining years of their life also adds a huge dose of tension, as people now need to worry about each other just as much as they need to worry about a loose screw on a chandelier.

Final Destination 5 is an exhilarating movie with a great balance of comedy, frightening violence and a massive amount of suspense that you never found in the previous 3 installments.
