8 Humorous Horror Movies Only A Child Could Fear

By Brandon Jacobs /

8. Leprechaun (1993)

Leprechauns can not be scary, and they never will be, but that didn€™t stop the creators of Leprechaun from trying. Starring Jennifer Aniston in her first major feature, the film follows the attempts of an evil leprechaun to locate his missing his bag of gold, which had been lost 10 years earlier. Cue instant hilarity. I can forgive a young child for being scared of this film. Up until seeing this, they are taught that leprechauns are cheerful and happy beings. Leprechaun twists this concept and turns it into something that would kill you. Anytime something that is supposed to generate positive feelings in a child is made to frighten them, it is understandable that it would scare them. There is also an intimacy the leprechaun has with children, due to his size, that makes his presence particularly threatening. Outside of this age bracket, however, you€™d be hard pressed to find any sane adult that finds this movie anything but hilarious, for all the wrong reasons of course. Images such as the leprechaun riding a kiddie tricycle only illicit chuckles, not scares. It€™s hard to tell what tone the creators were going for, but horror it is not. The series realized this pretty quickly, and by the time the leprechaun made it to space, the joke was complete. To a kid, though, the leprechaun is a little man out to get them, and worth being afraid of€you know, if you€™re five.
