8 Major Theories For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3

8. It Will Pick Up Directly After Endgame

While never reaching the levels of the X-Men universe, the timeline of the MCU has caused some confusion in the past to say the least. This is only natural with so many separate storylines running at the same time, but the 'eight years later' narrative at the start of Spider-Man Homecoming certainly didn't help.

While being completely removed from any other storyline in the MCU however, Guardians Volumes 1 and 2 were left unaffected by this. Though the two movies were separated by three years in real time, there were just a few months between them in terms of the storyline.

It is less clear however, the length of time between Volume 2 and the team's appearance in Infinity War, because who knows how quickly Groots grow? So when will Volume 3 take place in the overall timeline?

Obviously this remains to be seen, but it would make a lot of sense to pick up with the team directly after the events of Avengers: Endgame. After such a traumatic experience, the movie could show the consequences of the snap beyond the stars, in the same way Far From Home detailed the reaction on Earth.

There is also something to be said for the odd couple of Rocket and Nebula showing the team how the universe has changed over the last five years. This would not be the only advantage of this timing however...
