Each month, Netflix adds a selection of old and new content to their catalogue. In January, they gave us Close starring Noomi Rapace and Polar with Mads Mikkelsen, not to mention the ridiculous FYRE documentary which tackles influencer culture.

We were also blessed with Sex Education, and the return of Star Trek: Discovery, Grace and Frankie, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Riverdale and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend also came back after their Christmas break.

But what about this month? Netflix’s February releases continue to include some promising original series in addition to a varied selection of films. Here’s what you should be paying attention to.

8. Velvet Buzzsaw (February 1)

After the success of Dan Gilroy’s directorial debut Nightcrawler, he teamed back up with Jake Gyllenhaal and wife Rene Russo to bring us a satirical horror about the art world.

Velvet Buzzsaw introduces us to various shallow people working in the art scene of Los Angeles. Everything kicks off when art agent Josephina (Zawe Ashton) steals the work of her dead neighbour, who had left explicit instructions for everything to be destroyed.

It’s an interesting mix of genre which shows what happens when people care more about money than actual art and intention. Whilst the film isn’t as a good as Nightcrawler, it’s still worth a watch for the cast (also featuring Toni Collette, John Malkovich and Stranger Things’ Natalia Dyer) and fascinating Final-Destination-style deaths.
