This is by far the funniest comic book film in recent memory, and possibly ever. That R-rating allows the banter to simply go to places PG-13 movies can only dream of, resulting in a wealth of crudely imaginative wordplay and imagery, not to mention a slew of pop-culture references, fired out so fast the movie practically demands a second (and possibly third) viewing. From the opening credits, which mocks the nature of Hollywood itself, through to the final scene, it's a movie that keenly sends-up its own existence within the blockbuster system. It's even funnier because it's so ballsy, and will be all the more gratifying if the movie is a success as predicted. Not every joke lands, sure, and your enjoyment may hinge on how clued-up you are on the things being referenced, but if you're hyped about this film, there's a good chance you'll catch a ton of them.
