8 Reasons Upgrade Is The Year's Best Venom Movie

You've probably had a chance to see Venom by now and decide for yourself whether the critics were right or not.

Regardless of that Tomatometer score, though, the film's already effortlessly tripled its budget at the box office, and it's safe to say that Sony has a hot new superhero franchise on their hands.

If the box office figures are any indication, however, you probably didn't see Upgrade earlier this year, the latest sci-fi action-thriller from Saw co-creator Leigh Whannell.

Before it was even released, the movie was being frequently compared to Venom due to both its obvious thematic similarities (a down-and-out guy gets bonded to a powerful, forceful entity) and the uncanny physical resemblance of its lead actors.

And in the wake of seeing both movies, it's clear that Upgrade ultimately feels much more like a true Venom movie than the actual Venom movie. Sure, the Tom Hardy-starring version had the official license and a $100 million budget, but Upgrade had an R rating and a clear, consistent and thoroughly entertaining vision throughout...
