Did you know that Ridley Scott and John McTiernan were offered the job of directing Terminator 3? Terminator Genisys, similarly, could have had Ang Lee, Rian Johnson or Denis Villeneuve at the helm, but all passed to cover more prestigious projects like Sicario and Star Wars Episode VIII. Instead, you ended up with Jonathan Mostow, whose career has plummeted since Terminator 3, or Salvation's McG, someone who - and there probably aren't many who'll argue with this - qualifies as one of the worst working directors of today. Terminator Genisys at least had someone more competent in the director's seat with Alan Taylor, but only slightly. Genisys's director isn't even a moviemaker by trade - Taylor made Thor 2, one of the weaker, more anonymous Marvel films, but has otherwise spent most of his career hacking away in television. When the really great, or even the merely good directors won't work on Terminator movies, what hope is there for the films ever getting back on track?
