Yes, we won't mention the senseless transformation into mute-attack-dog-with-optic-blasts later in the film, but the character of Wade Wilson as it exists in the beginning of the film is note-perfect, allowing for all of Ryan Reynolds snark to rise to the surface. Reynolds' performance was a tantalising taste of what a live action Deadpool could look like; it's thanks to what he was able to do with the limited amount of screen time given to him (his screen time which included actual dialogue, at least) that we now have an actual, seemingly-faithful Deadpool movie. The proof was in the pudding as early as 2009 as to how entertaining the character could be. Wilson also had some of the more memorable fight moves and action sequences in Team X's mission to Nigeria. As ridiculous as it is to cut a bullet in half with a sword, it still looked f*cking cool (and is not outside the realm of reason for a man of Wade's talents to accomplish).
