8 Science Fiction Movies Ruined By Their Twists

8. Iron Man 3

Marvel has come a long way in setting up the ultimate cinematic universe. Defining the superhero genre as a breath of fresh air back in 2008, it's been ten years of movies that have been the cornerstones of conversation every year, both fun and funny in equal measure. At their heart though, they're science fiction movies, and ones that took some experimentation to get exactly right.

Iron Man 3 is one such film. Directed by Shane Black, he decided to throw caution to the wind to make the film in his own style, and as such, altered one of the comics' most anticipated villains to appear on screen. Utilising the fan craze for The Mandarin, Black marketed his movie as a show down between Iron Man and said villain, only for it to be revealed halfway through that the character was in fact a bemused actor disconnected from the main adversaries of the plot.

Whilst in fact an entirely successful plot twist for a giant summer blockbuster, it's one that annoys fans to this day - lamenting the wasted source material and deviation from expectation.
