7. The Clash Of Captain America 3 With Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice
There are 52 weeks in the year so you have to wonder, even with all the superhero films listed in the intro, why two of the biggest superhero franchises would go head to head on the same day? The 6th May 2016 may be a prime release date for any big film but only the most hardened fans will go and see both on the same opening weekend. Warner Bros and Marvel are certainly goading each other. Marvel planted their flag on the release date back when Batman V Superman was still touting a 2015 release date, even though they had to announce what that film will be. Strange then, that as soon as Batman V Superman jumped into that spot, Marvel informed the world that that certain Marvel film would be Captain America 3, a sequel to one of the most successful and critically acclaimed films in the franchise outside The Avengers itself? Ultimately a good chunk of cinema-paying audiences will choose one movie over the other when they might have seen both had they been released at different times. The battle to dominate the other in their opening weekends will cost both films at least some of the numbers they were hoping for. If the lack of buzz of the aforementioned Amazing Spider-Man 2 is anything to go by, both Captain America 3 and Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice will find audiences at saturation point with super hero movies. The reality is that they will be remembered more for their release date clash than their own merits. It's also worth noting this is a far riskier pay off for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Should Captain America 3 fail to match the heights of its predecessor then the impact to The Avengers and the future of the cinematic Marvel universe will be minimal. But should Batman V Superman fail, then Warner Bros and DC's hopes for a fully-fledged Justice League movie might become a hopeless pipe dream.
