8 Things That Almost Happened In Indiana Jones Movies
2. Indy Battles A Demon And The Grail Knight
The Indiana Jones films are typically grounded, based in the real world but with pockets of magic, mysticism and science fiction to discover, so it comes as surprise that so much outlandish content almost wound up in them.
The Last Crusade underwent several redrafts after the version where Henry Jones Senior climbs the stairway to heaven, and some of them saw Indy encounter more resistance during the final act.
A revised draft turned in by Menno Meyjes began with a prologue in Mexico and eventually saw Doctor Jones locked in a deadly battle with a demon in the Grail temple, which he kills using a sacred dagger.
Innerspace writer Jeffrey Boam was the next scribe to have a crack as redrafting Last Crusade, and his version was closer to the final product, but that Grail Knight wasn't same the placid figure he ended up being.
The script had him as a final guardian of sorts and Indy battling him on horseback, which is difficult to imagine given the somewhat frail condition the holy knight was in in the actual movie.
As for Ernst Vogel, he was crushed by a boulder in this draft.
