8. It€™s Better Than Age Of Ultron

2015 was supposed to be the Age of Ultron. The sequel to the biggest comic-book movie of all time, not since the first Avengers film had there been so much hype around a superhero movie release. It had a hell of a lot to live up to, and wasn€™t able to manage it.

It was still an enjoyable Marvel film, but whereas the initial superhero team-up movie was the perfect end of everything Phase One had been building to, and felt extremely fresh and exciting, Age of Ultron felt overstuffed and weighed down by the sheer amount of things it had to carry.

Ant-Man, stuck onto the end of Phase Two almost as an afterthought, is the perfect film to follow it. It€™s allowed to be its own thing and is an extremely enjoyable movie that zips by like an ant scurrying from a picnic basket, and reminds you that comic-book movies can be fun while also featuring high-stakes within the context of the movie.
