8. Marvel's Spider-Man

Had The Amazing Spider-Man 2 earned the $1 billion Sony hoped for and expected, the wall-crawler wouldn't be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War next year, and The Amazing Spider-Man 3, Sinister Six and Venom would all still be on the way. 

After sinking a huge amount of money into the sequel in the anticipation that it would reach that landmark figure, Sony didn't turn a profit, and the critical response made it clear the franchise wasn't being steered in the right direction. 

With Marvel and Kevin Feige in control, fans may end up finally getting the Spider-Man movie they've always wanted. Part of the deal with Sony was that characters from the MCU will appear in Spidey's solo outing, so someone like Iron Man or even Ant-Man or Black Widow showing up is going to help this movie in a big way. 

Remember that fans and regular moviegoers alike are going to be excited about Spidey's future after his Civil War cameo, and with Kevin Feige promising a lead villain who hasn't appeared in a Spider-Man movie before (along with rumours of the Iron Spider costume being used), Marvel's Spider-Man is definitely going to stand out from the previous five instalments. 

$1 billion might seem like a reach for a movie which needs to restore faith in a struggling franchise, but if anyone can make it happen, it's Marvel.
