The Film: A spin-off from the Amazing Spider-Man movies focusing on Venom, the alien symbiote who is a dark, villainous or antiheroic version of Spider-Man, most commonly associated with the character of Eddie Brock. Alex Kurtzman, who wrote The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was set to write and direct the film. Why It Won't Happen: Sony's attempts at rebooting the Spidey franchise haven't exactly gone to plan, with them actually being less successful than Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, the film that was so messy it led to the remake rather than Raimi's Spider-Man 4. Now, after years of wishful thinking from fans, the web-slinger is back in the hands of Marvel, in a slightly confusing co-ownership deal. That means once again there'll be a new Peter Parker (Tom Holland this time around) and a new Universe. Sony still harbour hopes of pressing ahead with their other plans, but it seems as though it'll be back to the drawing board from 2017 (when the Sony/Marvel Spider-Man film hits). Certainly having a spin-off film featuring Venom is a no-go when you haven't got anything established to spin-off from.
