80. Catch Me If You Can - Steven Spielberg

Catch Me If You Can (2002) - Steven SpielbergA true story about Frank Abagnale Jr. who, before his 19th birthday, successfully conned millions of dollars worth of checks as a Pan Am pilot, doctor, and legal prosecutor. Catch Me If You Can is the most fun Spielberg movie I think he has ever directed and it always reminds me of Hitchcock's North by Northwest which was his fun movie. The movie stars Leonardo Di Caprio as Frank Abagnale Jr, a true life con artist who managed to talk and con his way into various professions such as becoming a doctor without having attended medical school. Tom Hanks plays Detective Carl Hanratty, the man assigned with the task of catching Abagnale as he travels around the country in various disguises, forging blank cheques to pay his way. I love the chase that ensures between the two and as usual Di Caprio does a great job of getting you hooked on the troubled character he is potraying. Christopher Walken is out of this world good in the few scenes that he is involved in and quite rightly was Oscar nominated for the role of Frank's father. The title sequence to the movie is worth mentioning, superb animation and the score from John Williams is so offbeat and fantastic. My favourite scene? The one involving Jennifer Garner as a prostitue who Di Caprio manages to not only sleep with her, but be paid for the privilage as well!! A lot of people may not rate the movie as much as I do, but I can guarantee that there is an extremely low percentage of people who have seen the film that didn't like it. You may not give it 5 stars, but I bet you enjoyed it.
