It's already established that we don't have any vibranium on Earth so how could we make a shield that rivals Captain America's? We've got plenty of tough materials that are more than strong enough to take a beating without falling apart - and one of them is glass.

A micro-alloy of glass and palladium is thought to be the most durable material on the planet. We can't see Steve Rogers or Sam Wilson wielding a glass shield through, but that's not the only option.

Buckypaper - a carbon nanotube paper that's 50,000 times thinner than human hair - is 500 times stronger than steel.

Graphene is 200 times stronger than steel when it's only 1 atom thick. If someone were to make a Captain America-style shield from currently available materials on Earth, we suggest graphene.
