I'm not going to suggest that I think that the Farrelly Brothers should win Oscars, but Peter and Bobby Farrelly were the kings of comedy in the mid-to-late 1990s. The three movies they wrote and directed during that period, Dumb & Dumber, There's Something About Mary, and Me, Myself & Irene, were all major hits. They also directed Kingpin, which wasn't a box office hit but has become a cult classic. While their work since hasn't been as good as those four movies (including the box office bombs Movie 43 and The Three Stooges), it's surprising that they didn't receive more acclaim for those 1990s comedy gems. The two received some minor awards for the There's Something About Mary screenplay and the film itself was nominated for the Best Comedy/Musical Golden Globe, but otherwise the brothers are empty handed when it comes to awards. Though I doubt the Farrelly's next film, a sequel to Dumb & Dumber, will attract much awards consideration, it will hopefully please fans of the pair's wild sense of humor.
