Now although this little Alien story has a small cult following and was enough of a success to warrant two sequels (both even more obscure than this), the 98% that is everyone else wouldn't have a clue that Xtro was even an actual word in the English language, much less a sci-fi film from the 1980s. It begins with the abduction of a man by Alien forces unknown whom after a 3 year hiatus, returns under the guise of the now human shell they abducted and search out the mans remaining family members (who have moved on) for whatever reasons Aliens do such a thing. Described as "pure trash" that was "made to capitalize on public interest in E.T. the Extra Terrestrial," this seminal sci-fi schlock was very controversial upon its release, most notably for its Alien impregnation scene and managed to even be classed as a "video nasty" even though it was never mentioned in the original list of 72 films deemed unsuitable by the powers that be. But in an era of torture porn (by the way, something which is NOT scary) it comes off as completely outdated and quite tame by today's standards. So even though it secured an eventual DVD release as part of the entire trilogy it hasn't really stood the test of time with moviegoers and is now long since been forgotten by all outside of the hardcore aficionados and sci-fi freaks like myself.
