No Joker performance to date has gone down as well as Heath Ledger's unforgettable work in The Dark Knight, iconic enough that it earned the late actor a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In a rare behind-the-scenes picture here, you can see Ledger part-way through the make-up process, with his prosthetic scars already applied but without his grungy face paint slapped on yet. This is of course reminiscent of the very brief glimpse of Ledger sans make-up in the movie, when he's dressed up as a soldier during Commissioner Loeb's funeral. For all the production images of Ledger goofing around while lost underneath his full make-up, here's a rare one where the actor's presence can still be felt.
