Both "lovable" and "insane" are fairly broad terms when defining one's character. There are plenty of movie characters out there that are outwardly insane, but cannot help their lovable presence. Quentin Tarantino is especially good at writing these characters. Mr. Blonde, Jules Winnfield, and, seriously, did you ever think you would smile at a Nazi commander saying, "Ah! Wait for the creme."
