5. Walter Murch Is Locked Out Of Studio Sound Library, Revolutionises Sound Editing
Walter Murch may be an esteemed, legendary film editor and sound engineer nowadays, but this wasn't always the case. We've all got to start somewhere, and back in the late 1960s, Murch worked under Coppola on his film The Rain People as a sound editor. However, Murch's low-level status meant that the studios weren't prepared to let him loose with their vast libraries, and seemingly not one to just up and quit, Murch set about organically creating all of the required sounds himself. Murch proved such a dab hand at the gig that soon enough, the big studios came a-knocking with their tails between their legs, asking him to re-mix their movies. Murch essentially made the stock studio sounds redundant with his superior sound creation, and has enjoyed a deservedly fruitful career ever since.
