9 Perfectly Innocent Pop Songs Forever Ruined By Movie Violence

The song: 'Stuck in the Middle with You' by Stealer's Wheel Admit it; once you read this article's title, this was the scene that immediately sprung to mind. And rightly so, for no one can mix pop music and the macabre quite like Quentin Tarantino. And nowhere is this, erm, good ear showcased than in his debut feature. Throughout the film, the characters' car radio has been tuned to 'K-Billy's Super Sounds of the Seventies' (the lugubrious deejay played perfectly by Steven Wright) but there's one song that, shall we say, has a more prominent placement than the rest. It's the scene in which Mr Blonde (Michael Madsen) has tied up and tortured a cop in an abandoned warehouse. His victim has been beaten, gagged and strapped to a chair. At this point, Mr Blonde asks him if he's heard of the above radio station, before tuning in a nearby set and filling the empty air with the deejay's ''Dylanesque pop bubble-gum favorite''. Mr Blonde sings and even dances along, before brandishing a switchblade and hacking off the cop's ear. The camera then famously turns its attention to an adjacent wall as the muffled screams provide a jarring juxtaposition. Maybe it's because of the lyric, ''I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair'' or maybe it' s because of Mr Blonde's cruel, closing joke but this song, arguably more than any other on this list, is absolutely impossible to detach from its scene.
