Perpetrator: X-Men: The Last Stand Professor X gets blown to bits! Magneto loses his powers! Except, before the movie ends, Magneto doesn't really lose his powers, and in the mid-credits scene, Professor X supposedly wakes up in the body of a comatose fella. So, ultimately, we come back to these seemingly "dead" characters as they return not to advance the narrative of the movie we just watched, but to further the possibilities for sequels! So, where does that really leave us? It leaves us with a dead Cyclops, a completed arc for a now-dead Jean Grey, and...some other dead mutants. Now, I personally enjoyed X-Men: The Last Stand (not as much as the first two, but I was greatly entertained). But it did take some classic cheap shots to fall into the sequel safety net. Come on. If you're going to commit to something as great as stealing away the powers of the trilogy antagonist and permanently changing who he is, then you should have the balls to stick with it.
