Movie fans have become downright obsessed with spoilers in the last decade; both avoiding them and actively seeking them out. They analyse set photos, casting announcements and trailers for the tiniest piece of information they can find, and put forth their own theories about who an actor might really be playing, or what unexpected twist might happen. Thats part of the pre-release fun, and studios seem to be actively endorsing this since - hey, it keeps people talking about the movie. Sometimes, however, a surprise reveal is so glaringly obvious fans spot it months before the film is even released, and all the studios can do is keep a poker face. No matter how many denials they issue or red herrings they put in place, theres little they can do to throw fans off the scent. Audiences have become increasingly tuned into most common storytelling devices, and go into movies or TV shows actively looking for obvious clues. So its become harder for writers to come with new surprises and old reliables like He was the killer the whole time isnt going to cut it any longer. But even so, these movies where fans figured the twist out months in advance could have tried much harder.
