9 Things To Expect From Lord And Miller's Star Wars Han Solo Movie
2. A Respectful Spin-Off
If it never seemed like Lord and Miller had all that much affection for the original Jump Street TV series, there was indication that the pair had respect for the Star Wars saga before they even got the Han Solo gig. The Lego Movie is punctuated by a visit from Han, Chewie and co., and features voice cameos from some of the original Star Wars cast, including Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian).
Lord and Miller even personally went to Lucasfilm to do a deal to ensure they could obtain permission to use Star Wars characters in the film. They also originally had plans to include R2-D2 as a "Batman-level character", until rights issues nixed it - which is Hollywood speak for "Warner Bros. refused to promote anyone else's property".
Now with the keys to the Star Wars toy box and no rights issues to contend with, Lord and Miller can pay as much tribute to George Lucas's original characters with the Han Solo movie. The assumption is, then, that they'll play this one much less irreverently than they did their previous movies.
