The Tagline: "Warning: You Are Entering A Domain Of Chaos." It's one of the messiest, most incoherent films of recent years, and the Southland Tales tagline wants to be up front with you about it. When director Richard Kelly announced his follow-up to the acclaimed Donnie Darko, the excitement levels could barely have been higher. Little did we know then that Kelly had created what some now call an "accidental masterpiece" with Darko, and that Southland Tales - his second - was to be a muddled, unconditional failure. If the ensuing critical devastation reaped on Southland Tales wasn't enough of a warning to viewers, the tagline literally has the word "Warning" in it, followed by "You Are Entering A Domain Of Chaos," a witheringly pithy (and accurate) line which could well have made it into Roger Ebert's review of the thing.
