9 Video Games You Had No Idea Were Being Made Into Movies

6. Need For Speed

Huh? Presumably there aren't enough video game to movie adaptations based around cars, so here comes Need For Speed, which promises to inject a little more Fast and Furious-inspired antics in your life. The video game series - one of the racing genre's longest running - dates all the way back to '94, and exists in a variety of forms, put is basically centered around the underground racing scene. This movie version, though, isn't taking a plot from any of the games, and has been adapted from an original story penned by John Gatins (Coach Carter). DreamWorks, who are paying for this thing, have released the following information regarding their approach to the movie:
"[Need For Speed] is a fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the awesome car culture films released in the 1970s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the best selling video game franchise it's being based on."
Which is to say, it sounds nothing like the best selling video game franchise it's based upon, DreamWorks. Could It Work? "Car movies" in general don't get a good wrap, and that's mostly because they never turn out very well. The fact that Aaron Paul (of Breaking Bad fame) is in this, though, gives me reason to believe it could actually be quite good. Or maybe I just want it to be good because Aaron Paul is in it? Whichever way you look at it, Need For Speed is going to be marketed towards the Fast and Furious fanbase, so fingers crossed it has echoes of the latest, actually good movie in that otherwise naff franchise.
