2. Marco Beltrami's Intense Musical Score

Though the film features lengthy passages of near-total silence, A Quiet Place's musical score from two-time Oscar nominee Marco Beltrami is an absolute corker.

Beltrami's more pared-down stylings enhance the tension terrifically without derailing the chilliness of the silent sequences, and occasionally Krasinski will allow him to go louder - typically during a chase scene - to nail-baiting effect.

Not all composers - especially ones as successful as Beltrami - would be willing to scale their work back to such a degree, but his contribution ultimately serves as a pulsing, uneasy accompaniment to the well-honed visuals and general emphasis on eerie quiet.
